Travel trends for 2022 – is a holiday flat the perfect place to stay?

Do you already have holiday plans for 2022? And what sort of accommodation will you choose? What criteria are important to you? The trend shows that more and more holidaymakers are opting for a holiday home or flat.

An increasingly popular option, which has now also taken hold in Germany, is the combination of a holiday home or flat with the services of a hotel. So-called ‘residential services’ range from sauna and fitness facilities, a private pool, breakfast service, access to a golf course, a reception and much more.

Travellers are redefining luxury on holiday

Independence and having a private retreat are currently key criteria when choosing accommodation and a destination. Holidaymakers no longer want to be crammed together by the pool to soak up the sun or be tied to the hotel’s set meal times. Instead, they prefer to enjoy the luxury of their own pool or roof terrace and the added benefit of having their own kitchen – or even being able to have breakfast delivered to their flat whenever they like. Amenities such as these, and many others including golf courses, jetties and wellness areas and facilities, are becoming increasingly central to the choice of accommodation.

What has long been familiar abroad can now also be found in Germany, for example at the Bades Huk holiday resort on the beautiful Mecklenburg Baltic Sea coast in Hohen Wieschendorf.

The trend for ‘holidays in a holiday flat’ is therefore no longer limited to families. Similarly, more and more couples and groups of friends are enjoying the added value and tranquillity of a holiday flat complex.

Lifestyle and sustainability

Modern design and exceptional architecture also influence the choice of accommodation. People love to capture a distinctive interior design with eye-catching details in their holiday photos and share this joy with friends, acquaintances and family. After all, this has a particularly significant impact on one’s sense of well-being whilst on holiday. An interior design that mirrors one’s own home, or one that reflects one’s personal preferences, transforms the accommodation into a home away from home, where that sense of well-being sets in the moment you step inside.

Sustainability is also a key consideration, one that is not limited to everyday life – particularly amongst younger generations. More and more holidaymakers are ensuring that their accommodation operates or has been built sustainably. What is the range and selection of local products and services like? Is attention paid to low energy consumption? Is consideration given to the surrounding natural areas? Are the bed linen and towels made from organic materials? Sustainable tourism will play an increasingly important role in the future, and accommodation providers and hotel or resort developers will need to adapt to this.
